Do you dream of playing or coaching sports internationally? Here’s some great news from the southern hemisphere!
The New Zealand Government has just updated the Special Purpose Work Visa (SPWV) for sports professionals. As of July 2025, elite athletes and coaches can now stay in New Zealand for up to 36 months—that’s 3 full seasons of opportunity! Non-elite applicants also benefit with a 12-month visa extension.
This opens doors to cricketers, footballers, rugby coaches, tennis trainers, and even e-sports staff looking to gain global exposure and build their careers abroad.
What Is the SPWV (Special Purpose Work Visa)?
SPWV is a flexible visa type meant for individuals with a specific purpose to enter New Zealand—including artists, religious workers, and sports professionals.
